History

Built in 1954 by Budd and sold to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad along with ten other stainless steel-bodied sleeping cars. They were named after different birds. This sleeper was numbered 7105 and was nicknamed “Oriole”. It was leased to the Pullman Company to serve on the Diplomat and National Limited trains, which served between New York and Missouri. Afterwards, the Oriole would serve on the Capitol Limited train, with service between Illinois and Washington, DC. During the 1960s, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad transferred some of its sleeping cars to the Northern Pacific Railroad. However, Hamburg Industries purchased the Oriole, which leased it to the Seaboard Coast Line and was renumbered 6703. When Amtrak took over rail passenger service in 1971, it acquired sleeper 6703 and renumbered it 2013 while keeping the name Oriole. When they refurbished this sleeping car, it was renumbered one last time to 2533. It was kept in storage after retirement and was sold to the Baltimore & Ohio Historical Society in 1992. In 1997, it was donated to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum where it is on display in the parking lot.
