History
Built in 1956 by the Budd Company in Pennsylvania for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. The rail diesel car was a combination of a locomotive with seating. It would be able to operate without the assistance of another locomotive. This RDC was used to pull the “Daylight Speedliner,” which served in Pennsylvania between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Only two combination rail diesel cars were built by the Budd Company. With road and air transportation taking over, the Daylight Speedliner was discontinued in 1963. However, the equipment was used in light rail services in Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. Baltimore & Ohio RDC 1961 was renumbered 9941 in 1970. In 1980, the CSX was formed and owned all the Baltimore & Ohio rail equipment to include RDC 9941. In 1984, this rail diesel car was retired at was donated to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, where it sits today in the parking lot for static display.
