History
Built in 1950 by the Pullman Company in Pennsylvania for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. After WWII, railroad companies lost business to road and air transportation. The Chesapeake & Ohio had an order of two hundred and eighty pieces of passenger equipment. This was the largest order placed by a railroad from a rail car builder at the time. They only preserved about 50 railcars and sold or canceled the rest of the order. This coach would be used as a luxury car with magazines, maps, and other forms of entertainment to keep passengers busy while they enjoy the ride. It served on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad until Amtrak was invented in 1971. It would then be used on commuter trains between Maryland and Washington, DC, until it was sent to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum in 1980. Today, it is on display in the parking lot.
