History

This steam locomotive was built in 1848 by the New Castle Manufacturing Company in Delaware for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. The design was to give more weight distribution for maximum tractive effort. During the Civil War, this locomotive was used to transport Union Troops and their supplies. This was the first war to use rail transportation. This locomotive is one of a handful used during the Civil War and is housed in the roundhouse at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum.
