John Bull
History
This locomotive was built in 1831 in the United Kingdom and was imported to the United States. It operated between New York and Pennsylvania. The locomotive kept derailing on tracks in the United States, which was why guide wheels were added to the front. After a few test runs, the John Bull began to transport passengers and freight. This locomotive could transport passengers and freight from New York, New York, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in five hours, whereas travel by road took two days. Today, it is on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
