First ran on the Denver, South Park, & Pacific Railroad as DSP&P #72 for a year until being renumbered #114. In 1889, it was sold to the Denver, Leadville, & Gunnison Railroad, where the name changed to Colorado & Southern Railroad in 1899, and the locomotive was Colorado & Southern #9. During the late 1910s, it received a new cab and boiler. While working for the Colorado & Southern Railroad, the job of #9 was to transport passengers up to the last passenger service on April 10, 1937, from Leadville, CO, to Denver, CO., before retirement. The New York World's Fair saved #9 from the scrap yard for the 1939-1940 season and was moved to the Black Hills Central Railroad in South Dakota before being sold to the Colorado Historical Society in 1988. The Uhrich Locomotive Works got #9 to operate safely for the Georgetown Loop Railroad in 2006. Unfortunately, it was too small for the tracks at this excursion, so there was a trade-off with another steam locomotive. the Rotary Snowplow Park Colorado & Southern #9 is currently located.
