M8
Recycled from a boxcar
57,300 lb
Standard Gauge

Converted into a caboose in 1974 by the Seaboard Coast Line itself in Georgia. This caboose was used out of Terminals in big cities of Florida. They traveled either just days or could travel for months out of their terminal. When this caboose retired, the City of Zephyrhills obtained it when Kathleen D. Burnside, director of Library and Museum Services, reviewed this caboose. Rocky Hollifield in North Carolina became aware of this caboose getting restored, so Burnside got hold of him to discuss what cabooses were for sale. Burnside got hold of an Amtrak conductor by the name of William Billy in Jacksonville. He had this caboose for sale. City Manager Steve Spina, Facilities Manager Shane LeBlanc, Airport Manager Jim Werme, and Kathleen Burnside made a special trip to Jacksonville to review the caboose. The choice was made that this caboose belonged on display at the Zephyrhills Depot Museum, where it sits on display today.
