Capital Transit Car 1430

History

Built in 1944 by St. Louis Car Company in Missouri for the Capital Transit Company. It was nicknamed “War Baby PCCs”. This car was stripped of Presidents' Conference Committee Headlight wings, curved aluminum trim, tread brake shoes, chromed anti-climbers, stainless steel window sash, window guards, and seat frames. Car 1430 would serve the Northern Division of Washington, DC, and would provide service on 14th St. as the not well-constructed Presidents' Conference Committee streetcar models., Cars 1400-1464 were stored as they did not provide the best business for the Capital Transit Company. After sitting in a junk dealer, the Rockhill Trolley Museum in Pennsylvania purchased this car and then traded it with the National Capital Trolley Museum in 1997. Today, it sits in the Street Car Hall as it awaits to be restored.
