Rheinische Bahngesellschaft Car 955

History

Built in 1928 by the Gebruder Schondorff AG in Germany. It was used on the Rheinische Bahngesellschaft along with forty-nine other streetcars and sixty trailers. This streetcar was provided with comfortable seating and high speeds for city-urban service during WWII as well as the 1950s. In 1966, Stadtwerke Karlsruhe Verkehrsbetriebe aquired car 955. It was refurbished for the Federal Garden Show in 1967. Lower body panels were painted brown with cream scrolls. Striped orange and cream curtains were installed on the windows. This streetcar was used to transport passengers between Castle Park and City Park. In 1969, it was sold to the National Capital Trolley Museum and was restored to the Rheinische Bahngesellschaft appearance. Today, Car 955 is on display in the Street Car Hall.
