Built in 1956 by Electro-motive Division for the Northern Pacific Railway and was numbered #7010D. This locomotive was used to transport freight trains. In the 1960s, the Northern Pacific Railway needed more locomotives to be used on passenger routes. However, Electro-motive Division no longer made F9A locomotives by the time the Northern Pacific Railway needed them. They added a steam heat boiler in #7010D for water, and piping had to be added to draw water to the passenger equipment via the baggage car. This locomotive was then renumbered #6703A. In 1970, the Northern Pacific Railway merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad and this locomotive was first renumbered #9812 and then was Burlington Northern #778. It spent the rest of its career pulling freight trains once again up until 1981. The last trip this locomotive made was to generate a rotary snowplow in Minnesota and was donated to the Inland Northwest Rail museum in 1986, which awaits maintenance as of today.
