In 1947, older dining cars were being replaced and upgraded for streamlined service. This diner was built in 1958 by the Budd Company for the Northern Pacific Railway and was Diner 460. It was used on the North Coast Limited Route until 1971, when Amtrak replaced the majority of passenger transportation by rail. This was renumbered 8046 when Amtrak took it. In 1980, this diner was renumbered 8509 and served on many Amtrak Routes up until retirement in 2017. The next year, Amtrak was selling its retired dining cars. A group got together to walk through and check out this Diner and sent a bid with this diner, along with Northern Pacific Baggage 1135. Today, it waits for restoration at the Northern Pacific Railway Museum.
